FESTIVAL OF YOUNG TALENTS OF CARTAGENA
Public response and involvement of artists, the key to success

When we turn off the sparkle of the recent activities of the dense program - 110 activities in twenty days - from the IV Festival of Young Talents MuchoMasMayo, the organization has conducted an initial review of the results marked by the satisfaction.

Despite its still short career, MuchoMasMayo has been installed fully in the cultural imagination of most citizens of Cartagena as a highly-anticipated event that is beyond the interest of young people to function as an innovative multi-arts festival for everyone with a significant follow-up by citizens of the municipality in addition to a growing number of visitors from outside that increasingly attracts outreach to the festival.

The risky and unconventional nature of the many works of the proposed program have not been an obstacle to the massive presence of public and gaining recognition. Thus, we note the overwhelming success of new proposals as the first Night of the Museums of Cartagena, who managed to drag a huge audience - more than 15,000 people gained access to the five participating museums - which exceeded all forecasts and reaffirmed the desirability to keep this initiative next year.

It has also found the majority of the public the new music festival - Much More Music - pop-oriented rock and emerging national, confirming the wisdom of opting for the song ´Indie´, which endorses its continuation for the future.

The third new aspect which has resulted in a very positive result is the pedagogical aspect of the festival, represented by the traditional importance of the provision of training workshops (12 workshops this year, with an average enrollment has reached 80% ) and the incorporation of a new line, the Festival of Students, to make fluid and permeable relationship of high school students with the artists and the works of the festival, allowing visitors to their centers and the students to the works of the festival.

Similarly, existing sections, as the Conference Cycle - whose audience has increased very significantly - the second edition of the Art Hotel Art Fair (more than 3,000 attendees at a weekend), or the fourth Short Week , reinforced by new sections (Time Limit Certamen, Friki or 18 shorts made by young people) have confirmed their acceptance of and monitoring by a loyal and growing audience, which surely has to do with the quality that each year reach these sections.

It also deserves a special track of the largest section of urban culture, Urban the One World, followed by hundreds of enthusiastic youths, who have both enjoyed the concerts of Hip Hop, and the greater relevance of graffiti (as are testimony the medians of the historical mural painted by the compositions and the impressive work Sam3 St., Kraser and Seal on the ladder and Gisbert Street tunnel), and the dramatic presence of the Parkour traceurs, followed by a tireless army of youngsters in this discipline for overcoming physical obstacles cities.

Has also been very successful participation of the residents of Saint Lucia as a guest Quarter Festival this year. The presence of hundreds of residents in the many activities and facilities that have chosen this area of Cartagena as a popular stage shows and their own creative works (there was massive participation in the cultural evening of Friday 22) confirm the correctness of the festival by offering the inclusion of a neighborhood in the program each year, whose outcome is a lever for population segments usually away from this kind of cultural practices and always surprises with its warm welcome.

For its part, the enhancement program has enabled guests to work as authors no doubt enjoying a growing recognition Rosell Meseguer and Clara Boj and Diego Diaz.

They have worked exceptionally well especially invited educational institutions, such as the work presented in Saint Lucia by the Istituto Europeo di Design and Architecture Contest held in collaboration with the School of Architecture in Alicante, which has left as the legacy remodeling of the Plaza of the Constitution of the Santa Lucia project about ´a neighborhood with their own light,´ which marks the presence of contemporary architecture in a historic district.

Finally, despite the weather setbacks, the show´s closing of the festival (finally moved to Sunday morning), who were fascinated to enjoy the grandeur of the air theater Puja!.

However, the increased recognition that the festival has found itself in such a short time, along with popular acceptance, the interest expressed by young artists in the 161 different projects submitted to the open call for artists from all over the world, of which 43 were finally selected by the professional jury.

The explanation we can give to the rapid success and broad acceptance of the Festival MuchoMasMayo, certainly with the quality and diversity of the resulting program, and with the enthusiastic and selfless work of hundreds of artists, but also with the generous help of dozens of entities and associations (up to 54 different), ranging from shopkeepers to open the Mall of hotelkeepers Hostecar, through neighborhood associations, the Caja Mediterráneo (CAM), the PUST, the Association of Art gallery in the Region Murcia, the Municipal School of Theater and Circus School Malabagic the Professional Conservatory of Music, major museums, art collectives as Tresorg, Tumulto, Rama Blanca, Otra Danza, collectivo Aver, etc., the Hotel NH , cultural institutions - in addition to the Ministry of Culture - like Cehiform, Lab, Center Párraga; media (la Verdad, la Opinion, la Cadena Ser, etc.). plus almost all of the council through various delegations, beginning with the Department of Culture, but also tourism, infrastructure, decentralization, Sports ...

After many months of preparatory work, this has managed to transform MuchoMasMayo weeks to the pace of city life, providing a huge flow of creativity and imagination. MuchoMasMayo 2009 has ended.

Today we have carried out the distribution of the magazine images of Saint Lucia the culmination of a project submitted to the convening of the festival and developed by Reel Photo.

The photo agency has been with us throughout the process of canvassing in the neighborhood and all the activities in it.

Satisfaction and nostalgia were encountered during the distribution of magazines, the neighbors happy, surprised, already somewhat accustomed to seeing in these last four months there.

Today handing in a summary of this little wave that we have beaten in the calm waters in a long time that this neighborhood and this city lived.

Here we´ve left them looking at themselves through the eyes of the outside that values it places in their neighborhood, their lives.

We hope you enjoyed our proposals as much as we did in the neighborhood.

Here we describe the project and introduce you to the authors, but nothing can tell us more than their images.

When we look at the pages of newspapers and magazines,a suggestion of depletion in the ways of representing the world, the images are committed to witness to the realities have lost its reason of being or that photojournalists have withdrawn en masse from the illusion of their profession. None of thiat is true (...).

This project is based on documentary photography beyond the use that is often given in the press. They look at the service of a project to enhance it, without giving it their freedom to tell the tale.

[...] What we proposed was to document photo REEL from all projects that have been carried out since More May in Santa Lucia. No documentation on the surface that covers only the culmination, if not deeper into the process and getting involved in it. The aim was to return to the neighborhood this visual information, showing that these processes led to neighborhood, even if the end result may be difficult to understand.

Do you imagine what could happen in the hall of this hotel?

This part came up from the hall of a hotel.
It comes up in a hotel hall because we rehearsed it there.

Normally, the hall of the hotel is a pleasant place, with tranquil music, few people and some friendly waiters that offer coffee.
As it was so good, we decided to rehearse it there instead of the prior-picked cold and unwelcoming studio. And this is the part that came out, that as you can see, is a reflection of the conversations that we had and how the same thing can be interpreted in many ways.

One of the basis of theater is the production isn´t it? Then pure and hard theater is what we are doing. We´ve done a piece of work where every single person that assisted can imagine a space where a series of relations between 6 people happened.

What happens does not have scene play. Neither is there theatrical illumination. Neither is there a dress-room (clothes?) The deed that has almost no translation.

Everything that we´ll have imagined in accordance with the indications that we gave to the two single interpreters in this hall.

Directly to hard and pure theater. I don´t know. What I think a little now, is that this part is dance.

His process -don´t know if he wrote anything- is the result that all -as much those two interpreters as myself- saw of the dance. Or if it would be dance.

IED visits Santa Lucía

A delegation of 26 learners from the European Institute of Design (IED) of Madrid visited the City of Cartagena from the 6th till the 7th of February, and especially, the suburb of Santa Lucia, the setting of the Talented Youth Festival Mucho Más Mayo 2009, put in course by the Youth Council.

The learners, accompanied by various teachers and the architect Mauro Bravo, were invited by the Mucho Más Mayo organization to expand a project of urban intervention in the neighbourhood of Santa Lucia, which will add up to what will be developed by students of the School of Architecture of Alicante, ´A suburb with its´ own light´, in the environment of the Constitution Square of this neighbourhood.

With this reason, the delegation of students wanted to make a prior visit to the city before expanding the project appropriate to the neighbourhood. The students will arrive to the city during the day, and later visit the Roman Theater and Consistorial Palace, also with a guided visit to the old area of our city.

On Saturday the 7th of February, at 10:30, the students of IED will visit the local society of Santa Lucia, where they will convey 2 presentations: one, by the head of Santa Lucias´ planning management of Urbanism – presentating the neighbourhood from the urban point of view; and another, by Alfonso Romero, a teacher of IES Bastareche of Santa Lucia. To finish, they will visit the streets of the suburb and the club Náutico of Santa Lucia.

The European Institute of Design (IED) of Madrid is a private university dedicated to design in all forms: Fashion, Graphic, Virtual, Digital, Interior, Industrial and Communicative Designs. Also a school of formation, IED Madrid is a cultural institution of the popularization of Design and of its´ connections with other disciplines such as Architecture, Art, Dance, Cinema; that organizes expositions, conferences, meetings and all types of ceremonies of the public and gratuitous character. The IED has establishments in Milan, Turin, Madrid, Barcelona, Venice, Sao Paulo y and soon Rio De Janeiro and Shanghai.

What is the ´Experiences with a Stranger´ show?
The scene setting of a Television program from different theaters. It´s about an artistic production, personalized and arranged exclusively for the strangers that contact Sonia Gomez. Anybody can have access to the product, to her, as she is something popular but intimate, something unique, unrepeatable and very personal. The ´Experiences with a Stranger´ Show is the setting in march of a scenic-experimental-machine-artifact where the women would be privileged witnesses of a mystery set to explore and being explored in relation with others and with the possible or impossible interchangeability of the masculine and/or feminine genders. An improvised plan and an emotional laboratory. A somatic, gestural and performative offering an exceptional deconstructivist gadget, where the common aquire status of miracle and marcianism.

Who would be interested?
The direct participation is meant for solitary men between 20 and 120 years of age, with the desire to maintain creative and spectacular relations with something that appears like a scenic-metaphysical-tramp.
The final result interests at a general level, although the women who would most appreciate the possibility to witnesses of the setting in scene, of the most un-confessable fantasies of their partner.

And all of this for what?
The objective of Sonia Gomez is to generously implement the creative and spectacular impulses with and for her more intimate strangers, the men.

And how does it work?
It´s a spectacular, personalized service designed for all those men who wish to have company at the same time that they expands their creative-artistic side, accessing new experiences and exploring the female world from the hands of female artist Sonia Gomez.
The stranger will have those experiences that he wants (within the catalog that Sonia Gomez offers) with the female artist. Afterwards deciding if he want this experience to be made public. If it´s thus decided, the acquired experience will be formed into a television program.

It´s about producing a series of 7 programs of ´Experiences with a Stranger Live TV show´, from the different places of the show´s tour with each theater´s own technical recourses.

Selected Project for the neighbourhood of Santa Lucia

Reunion of the Jury: ´Architectural Propositions in the part of Santa Lucia´ in the festival Mucho Más Mayo, on the 30th of January 2009, in Cartagena under the presidency of Nicolás Ángel Bernal, and the members being Mónica LavÍa MartÍnez, Mª of the sea Sánchez Amor and Juan Antonio Sánchez Morales, proceeded to select the project that will be executed during the celebration of the festival Mucho Más Mayo, from May 4th until May 24th.

Winning Project: ´A suburb with it´s own light´ by Carlos Bausá Martínez.

Having given special mention of the jury to the project: ´The Thin Yellow Line´ by Jódar Cristina Pérez, Antonio Ruiz and Andres Pina Vicente Torres.

´A suburb with it´s own light´ was the project most voted for by the local comunity, mostly for the easy comprehension of the model and for the material of cloth that permits the light to pass in color to reflect on the ground, glass having to do alot with this neighbourhood. It is an visual urban intervention with a poetic weight.

For the other part, the project ´The Thin Yellow Line´ came out very praised by the jury for all the thought put into the project, to connect the suburb with interventions for public use, philosophy that fitted completely with that of the festival, and with the objective to unify and to serve.

Unfortunately it resulted with difficult comprehensibility for the people who were not accustomed to seeing models, and at a technical level, one was afraid that it would end up by having a more ephemeral character of the line of color that was joining them, a finished capability of being changed, and a line that can be erased could lead to the intervention remaining unconnected.
Anyhow it is necessary to say that the jury found it hard to decide since the projects were of a high quality.

Jonah Brucker-Cohen:destroying the Pavilion of the region of Murcia in Arco.

Puertas de Castilla collaborates in a project of the American artist Jonah Brucker-Cohen to destroy the Pavilion of the region of Murcia in Arco.

The denominated project Alerting Infrastructure is a physical registry of impacts that transforms the entrances to the Web of the centre (www.puertasdecastilla.org) into real physical damage inside the pavilion.

The work aspires to make us conscious that, little by little, the physical space withdraws against the virtual one.

The proportion of structural damage in the building has direct relation with the degree from exhibition and attention obtained by the Web, with the consequent physical risk to the temporary existence of the physical structure.

In the door of the center there will be a computer (from the 11 to the 16 of February) from where with each new virtual access to the Web, the order will be sent to a pneumatic hammer that, little by little, will be destroying the walls of the mounted physical installation in the Pavilion of Techformance in the Arco of Madrid.

Until now, the project has been done in nine countries (Ireland, Peru, Brazil, the USA, Spain, Canada, Belgium, Germany and Holland).

Jonah Brucker-Cohen is an investigator and artist who at present is preparing his doctorate in the Team of Disruptive Design of the Group of Investigation of Networks and Telecomunicaciones (NTRG) of the Trinity College de Dublín. Their work and theses concentrate in the (De-construction of Systems), a subject that includes directed projects to question and to subvert the perceptions assumed on the interaction and the experience with networks. Its work has been shown in exhibitions and events of institutions like the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) (2008), Museum of Modern Art (MOMA - NYC) (2008), Institute of Contemporary Art in London (2004), Whitney Museum of American Art´s ArtPort (2003), Electronic Ars (2002,04,08), ZKM Museum of Contemporary Art (2004-05), Dutch Electronic Art Festival (2003,04), Future Art (2004), SIGGRAPH (2000,05), ISEA (2002,04,06) and the Chelsea Art Museum.

AOL STARTS (ON THE OTHER SIDE)

AOL begins, the first course of this season in the Artistic Forum

Artistic forum begins its formative season with a project whose keys are integration and the creativity. AOL is an encounter of artists with groups in which people with and without incapacity participate. The coordinators of this project are the choreographer and dancer Oniz Vizcaíno, and the artist Ana Ballesta Cervantes, whose pedagogical trajectory and artistry has lead her to investigate the relation between the plastic arts, music and the dance. Thus AOL arises.

In the words of Onil Vizcaíno ´Al otro lado (To the other side) offers to the people with and without incapacity the possibility of being the protagonist of a creative experience that uses the dialog of the arts like transforming dynamics of our daily being. This dialog uses the contemporary dance, the plastic arts, music and the theater to bring about the creative artistic act, returning to the primitive concept of the art like something inherent to the human being.

The workshop will take place Tuesdays of 18:30 to 20:30 hours and alternating Saturdays of 11 to 13:30, it will extend until the 20 of June, and will conclude with an elaborated final show during the sessions. The attendance is free.

BETWEEN THE FRIGHT AND THE TENDERNESS: STAMPEDE

Foro Artistico (Artistic forum) presents the first exhibition of this season with the peculiar proposal of Mª del Mar Domenech ´Estampida´ (´Stampede´).

Photographs, texts and ´sheets of grandmother´ are the actors of ´ Estampida´ , the first solo exhibition of Mª del Mar Domenech, who through these resources, beyond the mere image, raises a series of reflections that move the spectator from the inside.

´Nature is the only thing that does not lie, except for the nature of the human being, and I believe that I am angry with him and with all the circus that we created…´ affirms the artist. Constant writer of poetry, stories or fables, Maria del Mar Domenech presents ´Estampida (Stampede)´, a poetic exposition, that combines photography and Literature. The deception of the passive tendency and the prevailing in-communication at the moment, contrasts with its non-conformist and creative spirit. ´Stampede´ mixes melancholic images and paragraphs, inviting us to think, and to create our own histories and conclusions.

The exhibition will be opened on Thursday 5th at 21:00h and will remain in the Artistic Forum until the 17th of February, with a schedule of Monday through to Friday from 9:00h to 21:00 h.

12th EDITION OF FESTIVAL AUPA LUMBREIRAS!

The 12th edition of the festival Aupa Lumbreiras! It will be celebrated on the 25th and 26th of September in the enclosure ´ The Granja´ of Tobarra (Albacete). The organisation has taken note from the failures of last year, and for this edition will improve the sound and will try to remove the infamous stones of the enclosure.

Aupa Lumbreiras! is resigned to lose the healthy custom of offering an economical offer, and this year will be on sale for the special price of 25 Euros.. The only change is that if in 2008 there were the 3,000 tickets available in the special offer, this year there will be only 1,000, that will be on sale on Wednesday the 11th of February from the 10:00 at Tick Tack Ticket. When the tickets run out, the price will be of 45 Euros for anticipated sale and 50 Euros at the ticket office. This year loose entrances will not be sold, only installments.

Born in 2005 to the initiative of the Youth Asociation of Murcia Rock, coordinated by musical activist Tony Ciphra -
*Coyote Rock Bar* of Cartagena

The competition, in its latest edition is focused exclusively on local bands, opens its doors to the whole region of murcia. The only condition is to be the owners of the rights to their songs, to be able to interpret them live with no discographic contracts.

To participate, the artists should upload at least 3 songs @ *Jamendo* (www.jamendo.com), sending an email to cartagena@grupocoyote.net the inscription flyer from the official website: (www.coyoterockbar.com), before the 25th of January.

28th of January : The chosen bands get announced.

30th of January : The judge will choose the bands that will perform live, presentation party: *AUDIO*, winner of last years Bud Coyote 2008.

Here twenty bands will be drawn to act live in 10 concerts, with the reason of two bands per day:

*6, 13, 20 y 27 February 6, 13 y 27 March, 3, 17 y 24 April*.

The final will be celebrated in may forming part of the Mucho Mas Mayo festival.
Three bands will be chosen, where the winner will walk away with 4000 €
and participate in gigs from different parts of Spain and a european festival.

The rest of the finalists will get a 500 € reward.
There will be a prize for the best Band of Cartagena,
which will play as the invited in the final and will accompany
the winner to the three Spanish gigs.

The most voted band will get a conmemorative plate.

The Hip Hop group El Klan de los Dedeté is said to be the best murcian cd of the year
voted by the people in Murciarock.com musical portal of La Verdad (Grupo Vocento).

Last year Baster Dedeté, was named the 4th best cd of 2008 in our our comunity with his solo LP "El mundo cambia las bases permanecen 1.0" (The world changes, the base stays).

Model Expo

On Monday the 26th of January at 12:00 was the opening act of the Models exposed by the school of Architecture of Alicante. The event took part in the neighbourhood of Sta Lucia, where we were all invited.

The neighbourhood will have the chance to choose the project they like most from monday 26 untill Thursday 29. On the 30th the winning project will be chosen by the votes submitted and will be tested for viability by the technitians.

The selected project will be accomplished by the actual students themselves.

This production of the festival is an initiative which is unique on a national level and is one of the most important footprints of Mucho Mas Mayo, making better our urban environment.

Photo España 2009 Descubrimientos PHE Call for Entries

From november 12 to january 11

PHotoEspana is now receiving submissions for Descubrimeintos PHE, the Festival’s portfolio review. This program offers photographers the opportunity to show their work to curators and editors specialized in photography. Descubrimientos PHE has taken place in Madrid since 1998, and this year with the support of the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID) reviews will also be held in Lima and Mexico DF.

Descubrimientos PHE Madrid invites photographers of all nationalities, ages and photographic disciplines to submit their work. The artists selected to participate in the activity will be able to show their work to eight photography professionals and participate in a collective show that will form part of the Official Section of PHotoEspaña 2009.

Descubrimientos PHE Lima and Descubrimientos PHE Mexico DF are open to all photographers residing in Latin America. The artists selected to participate in the review will show their work to the panel of reviewers. And, the Instituto Cervantes will name a curator to select some of the photographers to participate in a collective show that we be held at the Sede del Instituto Cervantes en Madrid during PHotoEspaña 2009, and will travel to other Instituto Cervantes venues worldwide in 2010.

All of the Descubrimientos PHE Madrid, Lima, Mexico DF participants will have a chance at the Descubrimientos PHE Epson Award, consisting in an individual exhibition in PHotoEspaña 2010. Furthermore, their images and curricular information will be included in the Descubrimientos PHE Guide, which serves as reverence for the press and Festival guests.

A festival with a participative philosophy could not loose its space in Internet, which we hope we will all form and shape.

November keeps COYOTE live.
The performance of the bands that are in form, over the region guarantees
nights of Rock and passion in the harbor of Cartagena.

On Nov. 7 are MOSHE: the new formation of the Jojo
(Frontman of Urban Castle Magic) which will attack with its
banda New topics accompanied by Neverland Number 4, local band.

On the 14th Voice Off 2.1 presents their record,
perpetrated of energy and quality. On Friday, 21 arrives
turno de yer Soul, a group of Murcia in 2007 as AJ Murcia Rock says, who will play the songs fresh from the incubator.

We finished the month with JUMP, versions band within the
Coyote Coverbands cycle in the Nov. 28.

All concerts start on time at 23h. y and
Entry is free.

Catalog 2008

You can now download the Catalog of the third edition of the Mucho Mas Mayo Festival.
As you may know the Council of Youth annually publishes a catalog including a DVD where all the activities carried out are exposed.
This year both the graphic design and catalog were developed by artist and designer Kraser.
The DVD was done by Ala Deriva Films adding video and music to the publication.
